A tragic accident at St. Augustine City Hall has led to the death of a man who fell from a 15-foot ladder. The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved a worker from Blanchard Caulking and Coating, a commercial waterproofing business. According to First Coast News, the company confirmed their employee's death following the fall.
Firefighters from St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and the man was immediately taken to Flagler Hospital due to his life-threatening injuries, later succumbing to them. Speaking to the incident, taken to the hospital was the middle-aged man according to Florida Times-Union report.
In what has been characterized as a "construction-related accident," St. Augustine Police Department advised on social media that City Hall would be shut down at noon on the same day, with plans to reopen at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The sudden closure reflected the gravity of the situation and afforded officials time to handle the aftermath of the tragic event, as per First Coast News.
Expressing their grief, a spokesperson from Blanchard Caulking and Coating mentioned, "A team member of Blanchard Caulking and Coating experienced a medical incident on Friday morning." "It is with deep sadness that we can report that he has passed away. Out of respect for the deceased family we have nothing further to report," reported the statement provided to the News4JAX.
