Tragedy struck in Yuma, Arizona, when authorities discovered two individuals deceased amidst the remnants of a house fire, victims of gunshot wounds before the blaze engulfed their residence. The fire, which police have determined was deliberately set, occurred last Saturday and claimed the lives of 32-year-old Dustin Trease and 31-year-old Leticia Villareal. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, firefighters responded to the scene after 11:25 p.m. near 16th Street and 10th Avenue, where they faced heavy smoke billowing from the home.

The rapid intervention of the Yuma Fire Department was crucial, as crews encountered both victims shortly after making entry. "Crews from the Yuma Fire Department arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from multiple openings of the home. Yuma Engine 4 entered the structure and immediately located an unconscious subject. Yuma Engine 2 then entered the structure and located a second unconscious subject.  Both subjects were removed from the structure immediately upon locating them," described Yuma Police in a news release obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Unfortunately, both Trease and Villareal were pronounced dead at the scene.

Facing a situation where the flames raged with persistence, firefighters were forced to assume a defensive stance to prevent the fire from threatening additional structures. As detailed in a report by 12 News, no other individuals were found in the home, and no firefighters sustained injuries during the incident. The investigation that followed soon led to the conclusion that arson was the source of the conflagration.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to step forward, with the possibility of receiving a cash reward of up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest.
