An 11-year-old boy was struck by a car while riding his scooter near a playground in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. According to ABC7NY, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. last Friday, and the boy is in stable condition
The collision happened at the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Avenue Y. Details are still emerging, but a video obtained exclusively by News 12 revealed that the child was in the midst of an intersection when the accident occurred. A witness at the corner of the playground, who requested anonymity, provided a statement describing the incident, "I saw a car hit him, and then he fell backwards and he hit his head, and I saw blood. Me and my friends ran. I started crying and I felt really bad for the kid my friends were trying to calm me down."
Following the incident, community members have expressed concerns about traffic safety in the area. One local parent, Yulia Rozenthal, told News 12, "She also rides scooters and bicycles, so getting across the street is really stressful." The driver involved in the incident reportedly remained at the scene, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
