Tragedy struck a Houston home yesterday when a 12-year-old boy was fatally shot in an incident police say appears to be accidental. The shooting occurred at a residence located at 11106 Sageheather Drive, where at approximately 4:55 p.m., Houston Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire, according to the City of Houston News.
The juvenile victim, whose name has not yet been released pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was found unresponsive by arriving officers, having sustained a gunshot wound on the premises. Houston Fire Department paramedics declared the young individual deceased at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Lamont and Detective A. Herrera are leading the ongoing investigation, as per the City of Houston News. Evidence so far suggests that the boy and a sibling were playing inside their home when they stumbled upon a firearm, which then accidentally discharged and resulted in the victim being struck. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
