A tragic incident occurred at Cheatham Dam yesterday when a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming, according to local officials. The boy went missing in the Cumberland River near the beach area at the Cheatham Dam, and his body was recovered shortly thereafter, WSMV reports.

Initial reports indicate that the teenager was found outside the designated swimming area and did not know how to swim. Cheatham County Emergency Management Director and County Fire Chief Edwin Hogan noted that the search operation involved several agencies. After the boy went under and failed to resurface, emergency crews conducted a search, which ultimately led to the recovery of his body, as indicated by information provided by WKRN.

The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) shared that the boy was bobbing on a buoy that delineates a transition from a six to eight-foot "beach area" to a deeper 20+ foot drop-off area. He reportedly fell off the buoy into the deeper waters, which tragically resulted in his drowning. The time of the initial incident was reported at 1:08 p.m., and the body was located at approximately 3:10 p.m., FOX 17 News remarked.

Authorities have informed that there were many people in the vicinity, including the child's mother as well as his cousins, with whom he was swimming.
