Amidst the annual festivities on Friday, a large crowd assembled in Uptown Charlotte's Romare Bearden Park and the surrounding area, leading to a significant police presence. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), anticipating the holiday gatherings, deployed resources to effectively manage any potential disturbances. Despite no sanctioned events being scheduled for the evening, CMPD officers were stationed to maintain order as celebrations unfolded.
The CMPD was out in force and had to quickly react to maintain peace as the crowd grew. In total, there were 15 arrests, with those apprehended comprising both adults and juveniles. According to a report published by the CMPD, ten firearms were seized during the interventions. In the same report, it was disclosed that the arrests included charges for a variety of offenses, ranging from drug possession to firearm-related violations.
Among the adults arrested were Khalil Delaney, 18, and Don-Nell Greene, 20, both facing multiple charges that included Carrying Concealed Weapon (Gun) and Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana. Other individuals like Tommie Glinsey, 26, and Kamron Mason, 31, were charged with more severe crimes, including Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle and Felony Conspiracy. Carell Scipio, 42, faced charges for possession and resisting a public officer. The CMPD release outlined specific charges for each of the detained adults.
A group of eight juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were also detained. Their charges were disclosed to include Carrying Concealed Weapon, Disorderly Conduct, and other relevant violations. Confrontations during the arrests were not without incident; two officers sustained injuries, one of whom was transported to the hospital with serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries, as the CMPD report stated. These operations were backed by various city and county agencies, highlighting the collaborative effort to ensure public safety.
