
Delaware State Police are currently leading an investigation into a fatal crash involving a single vehicle near Farmington that took place in the early hours of July 6th. According to a Delaware State Police press release, a GMC Sierra pickup truck was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Greenwood man.
The incident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. on Shawnee Road, just south of Breezy Meadow Lane, where the truck was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed. Reports indicate that the vehicle left the road for unknown reasons, colliding with a tree and then a second tree head-on. The young driver was not wearing a seatbelt and subsequently died on the scene, according to officials.
This stretch of Shawnee Road experienced closures for about three and a half hours as the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation and worked to clear the area. The driver's identity has not yet been released to the public, pending notification of next of kin.
