A 69-year-old woman, Joan Debra Voith, was fatally struck by an out-of-control vehicle at the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Applewood Lane. Montgomery County Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police and fire rescue crews rushed to the scene at around 11:39 a.m. on Monday after reports of a pedestrian involved in a vehicular accident. Initial investigation points to Voith, who resided in Derwood, being on the sidewalk with her dog when a brown 2017 Buick Envision swerved off the road and struck her. The adult driver of the involved vehicle stayed on the scene as first responders arrived, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact them at (240) 773-6620. Detectives are working to determine what led to the incident. While Joan Debra Voith’s death is a tragic loss, there is some relief in knowing her dog was not injured.
