Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit has been tasked with a somber inquiry following a hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a 74-year-old pedestrian, as informed by an official Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release. In the early hours of Saturday, near the 4300 block of North Tryon Street, police discovered Ace Nathaniel Chambers unresponsive, his last breaths seemingly claimed by the hard asphalt of the pavement where one should find the casual drift of passersby, now a silent witness to his final moments.
Authorities responded to reports of the accident with injuries at approximately 12:50 a.m. where they were met with the sobering scene, Chambers was declared dead on the spot by MEDIC, while Willie Sturdivant, age 35, sat at the helm of a damaged 2007 Chrysler 300 accompanied by two juveniles; the other offending vehicle had skittered away into the blind spots of the night before law enforcement could take note.
Detective Sessoms from the Major Crash Investigation Unit urges witnesses, anyone with pertinent details surrounding the incident to come forward, they might provide information to (704) 432-2169 Extension 3, alternatively there's the option of remaining anonymous through Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, or by visiting their website.
