
Tragedy struck the Centennial Neighborhood this past weekend when 85-year-old cyclist Raymond L. Myers was involved in a fatal collision. According to a report by the Portland Police Bureau, Portland officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Southeast 145th Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Upon arriving at the scene of the accident, police discovered Myers, who subsequently was expected to survive despite being transported to the hospital with injuries. Hiep P. Tran, the 54-year-old driver from Portland, stayed at the location of the crash. It was noted by officers that showing signs of intoxication, Tran was arrested. Charges including Assault in the Third Degree and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants were lodged against him at the Multnomah County Detention Center, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau.
However, the situation took a grim turn the following day. "On the morning of Monday, July 14, 2025, PPB’s Major Crash Team was notified that Myers had died," the Portland Police Bureau report stated. The notification of Myers' passing was conveyed to his family. In light of Myers' death, the charges against Tran have been escalated to include Negligent Homicide. Details surrounding the accident are yet to be fully ascertained, with the investigation ongoing.
