San Leandro is grappling with the repercussions of a violent event that has claimed the life of one of its residents, setting a grim milestone for the community this year. In a press release by the Alameda County District Attorney, DA Ursula Jones Dickson declared that murder charges have been filed against 49-year-old Andre Thomas Williams for the shooting that resulted in the death of 47-year-old Ryan Montgomery Christie back in June.
Andre Williams, who has previous convictions, now faces allegations of murder coupled with the claim that he personally and deliberately fired a gun, which culminated in Christie's demise. The DA's complaint accents the gravity of the case, noting enhancements due to the firearm's usage, and the resulting great bodily injury. According to the announcement, Williams is detained without bail, and his arraignment has been waived. He is to appear in court for a plea hearing on July 14.
In a parallel avenue of reportage, Hoodline provided details from the San Leandro Police Department (SLPD), recounting the grim discovery of Christie with his pet dog still leashed to his hand, after succumbing to a gunshot wound the night prior. Williams became a suspect following an investigation that included the Crimes against Persons Unit's and Crime Suppression Unit's collaborative efforts, leading to his arrest in Tracy, CA.
SLPD's ongoing investigation has led to searches at multiple residences linked to Williams, revealing further evidence. They continue to chase down leads. "Williams was taken into custody at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Pavilion Parkway in Tracy, CA," a spokesperson for the police elaborated, per Hoodline. In pursuing justice, and perhaps additional pieces to this puzzle, the police have called for any further information from the public.
The trial scheduled for next Monday at the East County Hall of Justice is poised to be a sobering moment for the community, reminding them of the first homicide to touch their city this year.
