Preschool students at 'Alani Strode Montessori are learning about the environment through an art project focused on the connection between freshwater, or "wai," and the ocean, known as "kai." Their paintings, part of "The Pool," depict the Hawaiian water cycle and use blues, greens, and whites to represent the convergence of water sources, as reported by the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
The project is on display at the museum near the MORI shop entrance through August 4. According to the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, it can be viewed on Mondays during state office building hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., even though the museum is usually closed that day. Students from 'Alani Strode Montessori preschool have also visited the Sculpture Garden, where they viewed “Waikui,” a glass sculpture by Doug Young located in a former swimming pool.
A student art display funded by the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is located near the arrivals area, featuring paintings about the role of water in the ecosystem. A photograph shows the students seated in front of their artwork. The exhibit is open for public viewing.
