Residents of Anderson County's Marlow community grapple with a water main break that has disrupted their water supply, prompting officials to issue a precautionary boil water notice. The Anderson County Water Authority announced the break Tuesday morning, impacting nearly 2,000 regional customers, as reported by WBIR. The damaged main is a 20-inch line near Oak Ridge Highway and Oliver Springs Highway.
Utility crews were dispatched to the break site and have been working to repair the damaged infrastructure. A representative for the water authority, Jeremiah Sweat, did not provide details on what caused the break. "Out of an abundance of caution," authorities have urged residents to boil their water and conserve usage where possible. This request has come amidst efforts to control the situation, and according to a statement released by ACWA, they "sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses." Crews are working "around the clock" with the anticipation of restoring full service later in the day, as per WATE.
The notice issued by the Anderson County Water Authority affects a large surrounding area, as shown on a map provided on their Facebook page, detailed by WVLT. The authority's preemptive measure to have residents boil their water reflects standard protocol in such scenarios, aiming to minimize health risks due to potential contaminants that can invade a compromised water system.
