Anne Arundel County has been the latest ground zero for allegations of child sexual abuse against a local religious leader who also held a teaching position. William Jones, a 58-year-old resident of Gambrills, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses that include sexual abuse of a minor, sexual offense of the fourth degree, and child abuse, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
The case came to light when authorities responded to a sex offense report at Elvaton Christian Academy in Millersville on May 1. After their arrival, police learned from the mother of a student about the inappropriate sexual behavior by a former teacher. Present at the scene, another parent alleged similar conduct directed toward their child. With these accusations, detectives from the Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit began an investigation that led to identifying Jones as the suspect.
The police, through interviews and gathering evidence, were able to ascertain his connection to the alleged crimes. Jones, noted for his role as Pastor of Jessup Baptist Church and being a past teacher at Elvaton Christian Academy from 2020 to 2025, was additionally associated with the global missionary organization, Mission Fields International.
An arrest warrant was issued, and William Jones was taken into custody today, marking the culmination of an investigation that spanned several weeks. Despite this significant development, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incidents or potentially others tied to Jones to reach out to the Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit, as reported by WBALTV. The Anne Arundel County Police Department maintains a tip line for anonymous reporting, in the belief that additional victims may yet come forward.
