Steve Montenegro, Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives, announced major staffing updates to the House Majority leadership team. The shake-up comes just days before the Second Regular Session of the 57th Legislature is set to begin, as per a news release from the Arizona Legislature.
In a move primarily seen to bolster the organizational backbone of the House Majority, Montenegro appointed Grant Hanna as the new Chief of Staff. Hanna's resume includes a decade of work at the Arizona Senate and a tenure as Deputy Chief of Staff. His role will extend to advise on critical issues like natural resources and government affairs, aiming to strategically influence legislation. According to the Arizona Legislature official press release, Speaker Montenegro expressed his belief in the team, saying, "The Arizona House is fortunate to have such a talented, experienced, and trusted leadership team supporting our Majority staff."
Further solidifying the structure, Montenegro promoted Matt Specht to the position of Chief Operating Officer. Specht, previously a key player on the Majority Staff with nine years of experience, will oversee the daily operations of the House. His new duties include leading House Floor calendaring and serving as a resource for all Members and staff, a testament to his institutional knowledge and professionalism.
Continuing as Deputy Chief of Staff and General Counsel is Linley Wilson, who will remain an advisor to the Republican Members and help shape policy strategy. Wilson's role as General Counsel also includes leading Support for the Rules Committee and providing legal counsel to Members. The announced changes will be effective starting the week of July 14, with Speaker Montenegro highlighting the importance of the leadership's: "professionalism and sound judgment," in a statement obtained from the Arizona Legislature's press release.
