To confront the challenges of managing an overflowing animal shelter, Arlington Animal Services has announced a price slash on pet adoptions, hoping to encourage residents to provide a home for the multitude of cats and dogs awaiting a family. Until Saturday, future pet owners can adopt a furry friend for just $5, a significant reduction from the regular adoption fees of $90 for cats and $100 for dogs. This initiative comes at a time when every kennel at the shelter is occupied, raising concerns about the resources and the well-being of the animals.
The discount campaign, an attempt to find homes for these pets and reduce the strain on their facilities, has been met with ardor by the community and animal advocates alike. "Please visit our shelter today or contact us to learn more about how you can help. Every adoption, rescue, or foster placement directly contributes to saving a life," Ashley Woolnough, Arlington Animal Services Manager, implored, as cited by the City of Arlington. Given the overcrowded situation, without the community's immediate action, Woollenough warned that the circumstances will worsen for the shelter.
Apart from adoptions, Arlington Animal Services is also calling for local rescue organizations to collaborate in transferring animals out of the shelter. They are equally promoting fostering, which provides a reprieve for the animals from the shelter environment and assists the facility in accommodating more animals in need. Potential foster parents are assured that the shelter will provide all the necessary supplies for the care of the animals.
The adoption special not only includes a new companion but also encompasses vaccinations, spaying or neutering, microchipping, a city license for Arlington residents, and heartworm or FIV/FELV testing, depending on the pet. Arlington Animal Services emphasizes the value of adoption and rescue efforts.
