Arlington is gearing up for a weekend of celebration, starting with a philanthropic touch. The city has collaboration in its veins, as Carter BloodCare and the Dallas Cowboys welcome donors to a blood drive at AT&T Stadium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Not only will participants possibly save lives, but the first 1,000 donors will also score preseason tickets to see the Cowboys take on the Ravens, as per the City of Arlington.
Following the blood drive, revelers can head downtown for the annual Light Up Arlington, lighting the night from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with live music, vendors, and food trucks. The evening caps off with a 20-minute fireworks display set to dazzle from 9:50 p.m. onwards, ensuring a blazing preamble to Independence Day. On the same day, sports fans can choose between women's basketball and soccer, as the WNBA's Wings face the Phoenix Mercury and later, the North Texas Soccer Club competes against Austin FC II.
The Fourth of July itself brings a cascade of community events in Arlington. Start the morning with some adrenaline at the Arlington Independence Day Parade Firecracker 5K, and then find a spot for the esteemed Arlington Independence Day Parade. According to the event's organizers, this July 4th parade marks 60 years of tradition. In the spirit of the holiday, the National Medal of Honor Museum beckons families to a day of patriotic festivities through their inaugural FreedomFest, all included with general museum admission.
Meanwhile, Six Flags Over Texas captures the thrill of liberty with Star-Spangled Nights, an event backed by M&M'S®. As the day fades, an All-American celebration unfolds with rides, music, and a fireworks show that promises to be a multi-sensory marvel. Texas Live! follows up with salutes to military and first responders at Freedom Friday and a potent dose of nostalgia at a Styx Tribute concert. Wrapping up July 5th, a tribute to Fleetwood Mac echoes through Arlington Music Hall, while M.C. Escher's art defies perception at the local museum, and The Smurf Experience offers a whimsical family outing.
The weekend continues with the Downtown Arlington Farmers Market, and the community weaves memories at the Arlington Public Library’s Quilting Retreat. There's also a meeting for the minds at Kutub, the Arabic Book Club, soothing Sunday brunches at Ventana Grille, and Love Island drama airing at Texas Live!. Entertainment options ripple throughout town, ensuring every visitor and local alike finds their slice of revelry under the Texan sky.
