Arlington residents looking to immerse themselves in the intricacies of their local water utility system now have a chance to do so, as applications are open for the Fall 2025 session of the local Water Utilities University. Arlington Water Utilities, known for its award-winning services, invites the community to partake in an educational series that offers deep dives into the operations and challenges of water management. According to the Arlington Water Utilities, those interested can apply online through Aug. 8, with selected participants to be notified by Aug. 15.
The program, beginning in September, is slated to run on alternating Wednesdays and will tentatively conclude in November with a graduation ceremony. During these sessions, residents will not only observe but also participate in tours of key facilities like the Pierce Burch and John F. Kubala water treatment plants. Moreover, it's an opportunity to meet both leadership and frontline staff, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the municipal water works. Participants from the inaugural Spring 2025 class rated the experience as excellent, revealing an enthusiastic reception to the community-centered initiative.
Feedback has stressed the value and impact of this exposure to the water industry. "This far exceeded any expectations I had," one participant told Arlington Water Utilities in an evaluation of the Spring session. Others echoed this sentiment, finding themselves not just informed but also empowered "to advocate for water conservation and to support local agencies and initiatives aimed at preserving and enhancing water quantity and quality."
