In an early morning chase that unfolded in Aurora, a repeat offender was collared after a dance with the law that ended abruptly in shattered glass and flashing red and blues. The Aurora Police Department took to social media to announce the arrest of Tracy Colon, 35, a known figure in the underbelly of the city's crime tapestry, whose latest act of defiance saw him pilot a stolen vehicle into a building's facade.
The spotted vehicle, reported stolen mere moments before the pursuit began, was quickly traced with the assistance of APD's Real Time Information Center, according to the Aurora Police Department. Colon, in trying to escape law enforcement's grip, lost control while speeding onto N Geneva from Colfax and crashed into an unoccupied commercial space at 10305 E East Colfax Ave. The aftermath of the pursuit revealed a firearm and narcotics, laying bare the dangerous elements that course through the veins of these high-speed confrontations.
Charges of reckless driving, third-degree motor vehicle theft, and possession of a controlled substance hang over Colon, as confirmed by APD. These charges will be solidified by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office as the system continues to churn in response to Colon's pattern of unlawful returns to the streets, a history littered with vehicle thefts, trespassing, theft, and shoplifting.
