A manhunt is currently unfolding as authorities search for Britton Molina, the alleged mastermind behind a sophisticated car VIN swapping crime ring. The operation, which has been revolving around luxury sports vehicles, came to light after Sergeant Pleytez with Constable Mark Herman's Office began an investigation on April 20, 2025, as stated in a recent Facebook post by the Constable.
The investigation, zeroing in on the 27000 Northwest Freeway, revealed the underbelly of an auto theft ring that practiced illegal VIN swapping — replacing or altering vehicle identification numbers to disguise and sell stolen cars. The crime ring's activities finally came undone when several high-end vehicles, including a Corvette Z06, Camaro ZL1, and a Nissan GTR, valued collectively at approximately $225,000, were recovered. These vehicles, which had been reported stolen, were discovered to have swapped VINs.
Authorities charged Britton Molina on May 3, 2025, with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and providing false information on a title application, for which he received a bond of $5,000.00 by District Court 174. However, Molina remained elusive and is now wanted for Aggregate Theft. Constable Mark Herman’s office has reached out to the public for assistance, stating, "Britton Molina is currently wanted by law enforcement for Aggregate Theft. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, you are urged to contact our dispatch."
Authorities are using both traditional methods and digital tools to engage the public and encourage awareness. The Constable's Office launched a mobile app, "C4 NOW," to provide real-time updates on crime, arrests, safety tips, and traffic.
