Blaine residents and commuters should brace themselves for ongoing construction activities and detours affecting multiple areas around the city. The city of Blaine has released its latest construction update – a heads-up for anyone trying to navigate the hustle and bustle of the ongoing infrastructural enhancements.

According to the latest update from the city Blaine Construction Update, the Lift Station 13 Force Main project on Naples Street will continue to proceed through its planned phases, with Phase 1 now nearing completion, and Phase 2 kicking into gear the week of July 28. Expected works include the installation of a sanitary sewer force main and street grading. A detour map has been made available for residents to navigate the construction landscape. Phase 3, which involves the replacement of Lift Station 13, is tentatively penciled in to commence the week of August 11, 2025.

Another significant project, the 2024 Southwest Area Street Reconstruction, is impacting various streets within its designated project areas. Notably, 89th Avenue will be closed to all through traffic between University Avenue and Jefferson Street from June 16, 2025, with the closure anticipated to last 10 weeks, up until August 25, 2025. While Phase 1 and Phase 2A have been completed, barring minor unfinished tasks, Phase 2B and Phase 3 are underway, with Phase 2B's final lift of bituminous pavement slated to be finished in unison with Phase 3.

The 2025 Southwest Area Street Reconstruction is also causing shifts in the everyday transit of Blaine residents. Key activities during the week of July 28 will include casting adjustments and boulevard grading, and restoration on several streets including 87th Lane and 88 1/2 Avenue. Phase 2 of this project is expected to take off the week of August 4, 2025, further contributing to the symphony of jackhammers and bulldozers that has become a familiar tune in the area.
