In an effort to curb the dangerous trend of speeding, the Blount County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is uniting with various law enforcement agencies in Tennessee for the "Slow Down Tennessee" campaign. This initiative, which runs until the end of July, is a response to the unsettling correlation between excessive speed and the frequency of severe accidents, including those resulting in death or serious injury. The campaign's focus is to bring awareness and enforcement to the issue, underscored by a recent social media post by the Sheriff's Office.
Highlighting the risks associated with speeding, Sheriff James Lee Berrong has issued a public plea for motorists to reduce their speed and drive responsibly; the majority of traffic incidents handled by his deputies are related to speed, the tragedy of which is sometimes compounded when lives are severely altered or lost. Despite the messaging's urgency—communicated through channels like Facebook—the challenge persists for law enforcement to dissuade drivers from pushing the pedal too fervently.
As indicated in the Facebook announcement, Sheriff Berrong's message is straightforward: "SLOW DOWN and drive safely!" By amplifying this campaign, law enforcement hopes increased visibility and enforcement will change driver behavior and create safer streets for all.
