A tragic boating mishap has claimed a life at Prewitt Reservoir State Wildlife Area, according to a recent report by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). The incident, which unfolded Tuesday afternoon, involved two adult men and an ill-fated attempt to navigate the waters.
Eye-witness accounts described the sequence of events that led to the unfortunate accident. Around 1:30 p.m., two men were seen launching their boat, with one on board and the other on the dock. As the boat started drifting, the man from the dock made a fateful plunge into the water, aiming to swim towards the boat. Regrettably, he struggled amidst the currents and vanished beneath the surface. "Witnesses told CPW the person in the boat jumped into the reservoir to swim towards the other man," as reported by CPW. His rescue attempt also turned dire, but he was saved by a nearby vessel.
In an extensive search involving multiple boats equipped with sonar technology, CPW officers and the Sterling Fire Department divers worked cohesively to locate the missing man. Their efforts concluded at approximately 3:15 p.m. when the victim was recovered. Support was also rendered by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado State Patrol at the scene of the mishap.
