
A twelve-year-old girl in Crockett County, Tennessee, is being hailed for her role in stopping a would-be burglar on July 17. According to Action News 5, Robert W. Sills attempted a break-in at a residence on Johnson Grove Road around 6:15 P.M. when he was spotted and subsequently fled into a soybean field, the girl chased him down and tackled him to the ground.
Witnesses, including a passing driver and a local farmer, lent a hand, with the farmer providing zip ties to detain Sills until law enforcement arrived. "This incident serves as a testament to the courage and resourcefulness of our community," Sheriff Troy Klyce said. "It’s heartening to see citizens step up to protect their neighborhood," he added in a statement obtained by WREG News Channel 3.
Sheriff Klyce also added that Sills had an existing active arrest warrant prior to being charged with criminal trespass and aggravated attempted burglary. The local authorities, including the Bells Police Department, were also involved in the response, as per information provided by WBBJ-TV.
"Our deputies commend the bravery of the young girl and appreciate the assistance rendered by witnesses. I am especially glad the young lady was not hurt by this nuisance in our community," Sheriff Troy Klyce told Action News 5. The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage residents to report suspicious activities and works to ensure the safety and security of all community members.
