In a flavorful twist of fate, Valencia Bakery, a long-standing family-run establishment in the Bronx, suddenly found itself in the limelight, courtesy of Puerto Rican music sensation Bad Bunny. The bakery's delectable creations featured prominently in the artist's latest music video for the track "NUEVAYoL", which has been racking up views since its Friday release. The visual treat showcases the signature cakes as part of a lively celebration scene, with Bad Bunny himself taking center stage next to the festive desserts, as per PIX11 News.
Struck by the sudden surge in popularity, the president of Valencia Bakery, Raul Valera, recounted the unexpectedly sweet opportunity. "It was a huge order because they ordered four huge cakes," Valera said in a statement obtained by PIX11 News. However, the details of the cakes' final destination were initially as enigmatic as the filling of a locked chocolate truffle — that is, until the bakery personnel arrived on set for the shoot at Bronx Community College and laid their eyes on the star himself. "I turn around and it was Bad Bunny. What a surprise! I said, 'let's take our time in here,'" relayed Valera.
News 12 reported that the order was placed at Valencia Bakery's Brooklyn location earlier this year, though the staff was kept in the dark about the true purpose until the day of the shoot. "He started recording his video," Valera told News 12. The revelation was a moment of excitement for the bakery team, although they did not get an opportunity to interact with Bad Bunny directly. Nonetheless, Valera expressed the honor he felt for his bakery’s involvement, given the rapper’s significant influence within the New York City's Puerto Rican community.
Valencia Bakery, with five locations across New York City, including the in Bronx and Brooklyn, has been a staple of the local food scene for over seven decades. The business, established by Joe Ripon, a veteran and Purple Heart recipient in 1948, faced closure years ago. But Valera, with foresight and concern for the employees and their families, chose to buy out the entire operation, safeguarding its future. Now, thanks to the unexpected boost from Bad Bunny's "Benito Cake" — a sponge cake named after the rapper, complete with strawberry filling — Valencia Bakery's dreams of expansion are looking even sweeter, as detailed by PIX11 News.
