As the nation turns its focus towards sustainability, Brooklyn Park reminds residents that the week of July 14 - 18 marks the city’s Recycling Week — a time to reaffirm the community’s commitment to environmentally responsible waste management. With crews starting rounds at the crack of dawn, residents are urged to have their recycling carts ready at the curb by 6:30 a.m., giving the collection teams ample time to complete their pick-ups by 6:00 p.m. each day.
Residents must heed placement rules for their carts: keep them a minimum of three feet from any obstructions, like another cart or a mailbox, and ensure the handles face away from the street, as dictated by the official guidelines obtained through Brooklyn Park’s announcement. Carts should occupy space in driveways or on the boulevard, but never the street itself.
In their quest to improve recycling efficiency, authorities clarified that materials should be loose in the carts. The reasoning is clear: Plastic bags are discarded, unopened, at the sorting facility, while paper bags complicate matters as contents might get stuck during compaction in the trucks, preventing successful separation at the sorting plant.
To streamline the recycling process and keep residents informed, Brooklyn Park introduced the HRG Recycling app, a digital convenience harnessed in multiple languages — English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. This tool provides essential updates, service alerts, and hosts a searchable database to determine the recyclability of any item. Interested parties can download the app from the provided link.
