
The city has tapped Camden Doherty, a seasoned member of its Public Service Department, to take on the essential role of Facility Supervisor at The Well, a newly constructed 110,000 square-foot recreation and wellness center designed as a state-of-the-art hub for community activity. Doherty, bringing seven years of experience with the City, is now in charge of overseeing general maintenance and operations, which entails managing the building’s automation systems and leading a six-person custodial staff, their efforts focused on keeping the place in top condition for patrons and staff alike, according to a recent announcement by the City of Hilliard.
Even before the center opens its doors on September 18, Doherty has been immersed in developing procedural standards, laying out maintenance schedules, and acclimating to the advanced technological equipment which is a highlight of The Well; he has stated, “This building is so state-of-the-art with so much highly complex equipment in there. I just want to make sure I’m on top of it all right away” an approach that exemplifies his proactive stance on facility care, a statement obtained by the City of Hilliard's news release reflects. Amidst this, the new Facility Supervisor isn't shying away from responsibilities as The Well gears up for its inaugural introduction to the Hilliard community. Another thing keeping him busy is his preparation for a new addition to his family, with his first child expected to arrive soon.
Doherty's background in maintenance began with his initial role as a technician before his capabilities and interests led him up the ranks to his current position, a journey that he began with the city back in 2018. He has now adopted a work philosophy reflective of his forward-thinking mindset, noting, “Build the car now. That way we can just do the regular oil changes later,” according to the City of Hilliard, hinting at the importance he places on preventive measures and readiness—a preventive mindset designed to save time and resources in the long run.
