The Carrboro Police Department is extending an open invitation to the community for this year's National Night Out, a nationwide tradition aimed at fostering tighter bonds between the public and law enforcement. Happening on August 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 301 W. Main St., Carrboro Town Commons will be abuzz with activities designed to unite neighbors and authorities in a friendlier, informal setting.
With offerings of free food from Monterrey Mexican Restaurant and Pelican’s Snoballs, attendees can savor not just the cuisine but also enjoy various attractions. Under the same sky where police patrols usually happen, children will be able to pack the patrol car with non-perishable food donations destined for TABLE, a community organization providing hunger relief. Both the young and young-at-heart are welcomed to partake in face painting, music, games, and even a Zumba session—a rare sight this is to see the local law enforcement officers engaging in a dance.
Promising more than just fun, CLAWS Inc. will showcase their unique animals while Orange County Animal Services will bring information on pet adoption, encouraging a different sort of guardianship within the community. According to the Town of Carrboro's official statement, this stands as a chance not just for amusement but for yielding a safer, more caring living environment through inclusive conversation and mutual respect.
For details about the celebratory event, community members can reach Sgt. Steven Dixon at the Carrboro Police Department’s Community Services Division either by calling 919-918-7410 or emailing [email protected].
