The Grassy Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is once again fully accessible via Cas-Cas Road. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has announced that the road, which previously underwent closure due to flooding, has been reopened to vehicle traffic. Nestled in the northeastern Avoyelles Parish, a respectable 12 miles from Bordelonville, Louisiana, the area offers a range of outdoor activities.
Adventurers and sportsmen alike, fortunate to have the road available again, can pursue their interests in hunting, fishing, and more. According to an update from the LDWF, Grassy Lake WMA is a habitat teeming with game such as swamp rabbit, white-tailed deer, squirrel, woodcock, and varieties of waterfowl. It also holds a youth deer season for the up-and-coming hunters.
Trapping is not just an activity from a bygone era; at Grassy Lake WMA, it continues to thrive with allowances for furbearers' trapping. Meanwhile, the waters extending their invitation to anglers offer fair chances of catching largemouth bass, crappie, and bream. As if hearkening to the call of the wild, those with rods and reels can now traverse the reopened Cas-Cas Road with ease.
Beyond the pursuit of game, Grassy Lake WMA also caters to those who seek the rusticity of the outdoors without firing a shot. The LDWF's announcement highlights two primitive camping areas, which, bathed in the beauty of the wild, provide a prime spot for immersion in nature. "There is also opportunity for hiking, photography, and birding," as described by the LDWF for individuals desiring to capture the essence of the land through the lens or with their own eyes.
