Charlotte's Providence Day School is embroiled in scandal after the arrest of a football coach linked to misconduct with a minor. 45-year-old Damon Coiro, the defensive coordinator for the school's team, is facing serious allegations after being charged with indecent liberties with a student and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, as reported by Queen City News.
The incident has rocked the school, stemming from claims that surfaced on June 26 indicating that Coiro had sustained inappropriate conversations with a 17-year-old student going back as far as late 2023 and as recently as May 2025 when Coiro purportedly bought alcohol for the underage student, during the conversations Coiro made sexually charged comments that has now resulted in criminal charges and a bond increase from $10,000 up to $75,000 following his court appearance.
Documents unearthed by the investigation suggest the student had been under Coiro's troubling attentions while he was employed at the school; this included indecent requests and assigning the teen a nickname derived from the identity of an adult sex worker, according to court files referenced by Sports Illustrated.
