In a recent social media post by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, commended were the efforts of the North Tryon Division first shift officers for their impressive seizure of an array of firearms and controlled substances during a traffic stop, according to the department's Facebook page. The bust took place on Reagan Drive after officers noticed what appeared to be a drug transaction in a parking lot, which ultimately led to the arrest of 36-year-old Jonathon Head.
During the stop last Sunday, law enforcement discovered multiple firearms in the vehicle including a Glock 22 .40 caliber, a Glock 30 .45 caliber, and a Masterpiece Arms 5.7X28MM Draco style pistol, the seizure also included various high-capacity magazines some of which designed for rapid-fire capacity, such as the M16/M4 100 round drum magazine and the 55 round drum magazine for a pistol. Alongside the weapons, officers confiscated around 7.8 grams of suspected marijuana, digital scales, a minimal amount of cash, and an AR-15 Lower Parts Kit - an indication of the intent to build or maintain a semi-automatic weapon.
Head is now facing serious charges, as listed by CMPD: Carrying a Concealed Gun (Felony) with three counts, Felony Possession with the Intent to Sell/Deliver, Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor). The sheer variety and firepower of the arms taken off the streets reflect a troubling availability of such equipment which can proliferate into the kind of violence that plagues many communities.
The police report detailing the incident, numbered 20250629-0732-01, provides an outline of the traffic stop and subsequent arrests.
