In the midst of these conditions, as NBC 5 Storm Team reported, a heat advisory took effect at noon, warning of mid-90s temperatures, and heat index values peaking up to 109 degrees. The high heat and humidity were expected to persist into Tuesday, setting the stage for potential hazardous weather events.
The severe weather risks included heavy rain, localized flooding, and gusty winds, particularly in the early morning. The NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Iisha Scott noted that live radar at 5:30 a.m. showed heavy rain to the west and south, with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour in some areas. Although storms were anticipated to ease by mid-morning, later in the week, another push of strong to severe storms was expected on Wednesday night.
Residents looked forward to the latter part of the week as a cold front was forecast to bring much-needed relief in temperatures, with a dip of about 20 degrees. NBC 5 predicted this transition, "a dramatic 20-degree temperature drop, with much cooler temperatures, lower humidity and more comfortable conditions." Moreover, the foretold cold front was not just a promise of respite but of clarity, a very literal change in the air, dispelling the stifling grip of this week's "pretty stifling" heat.
Looking beyond the immediate discomfort, the National Weather Service's weekly forecast indicated a cooling trend with Wednesday's high near 78, followed by a string of sunny and mostly clear days through the weekend.
