Norman, Oklahoma residents can expect a more customized approach to city communication starting Friday, August 1, according to a recent announcement from the city's officials. The City of Norman is joining hands with technology provider Granicus to enhance how information is disseminated to locals through the revamped Norman News email system, leveraging a platform known as GovDelivery. With this upgrade, subscribers will be able to select which topics they receive in their inbox, ranging from city events to public safety updates.
Offering a quote supplied by Norman News, Tiffany Vrska, the Chief Communications Officer for the City of Norman, expressed enthusiasm for the new system, asserting, "This will allow us to better tailor messages for the individual opting in." Evidently aiming to put residents in control, the system will enable them to follow the news or events that resonate most. Additionally, some text messaging delivery options will also be incorporated.
The list of categories available for tailored e-messaging includes city affairs like municipal elections and traffic advisories. Established subscribers to Norman News need not re-enroll and will automatically receive General Municipal News & Updates. Those wishing to alter their preferences can do so anytime upon the launch of the new system. To ensure a smooth transition, a confirmation email will verify any enrollment or changes to the delivery settings.
Notably, starting Friday, August 1, email dispatches will bear a new sender address: [email protected]. Vrska told Norman News, "GovDelivery has proven to be an advanced and reliable system for partner agencies, so we are looking forward to this rollover." While the look and feel of email messages may alter slightly, the City's commitment to keeping its inhabitants informed and connected remains a priority.
For emergency communications, Norman residents will continue to receive alerts from the separate AlertNorman RAVE System.
