A bank heist unfolded with heavy machinery at the center stage in Clackamas County this month. Matthew Evan Armour, 32, has been formally charged after allegedly using a stolen excavator to pry open a U.S. Bank ATM in a brazen theft attempt. According to a report by Clackamas County, the incident occurred in the wee hours of June 23, at the bank's Sunnyside Road location.
Deputies arrived to find the ATM dismembered, with the excavator idling nearby as though it was a silent witness to its own misguided operation. The suspect(s) had fled, leaving behind the trail of destruction. Armour is facing a slew of charges, including Aggravated Theft in the First Degree, Criminal Conspiracy, and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle—times two. He's currently detained at the Clackamas County Jail, held on $60,000 bail, and also for a parole violation.
Adding to the plot, a second man, 51-year-old Kevin Owen Miller, is implicated in the heist and is facing his own set of charges. Currently, Miller is being held in Multnomah County.
The night of the attempted theft, the excavator was reported stolen from its resting place at a local construction site, only to be used in the crime at U.S. Bank. "Deputies found the excavator still running, abandoned near the ATM drive-through," the Clackamas County statement described, painting a picture of a hastened escape and chaos left in their wake.
