Two Clarksville lifeguards, Ethan Hester and Blake Borah, were recognized for their heroic efforts with Lifesaver Awards, an honor bestowed by the City of Clarksville during a regular Clarksville City Council session. These young men, employed seasonally by the Clarksville Country Club since the summer of 2023, performed lifesaving measures to rescue a three-year-old girl from a near-drowning incident on June 10. City of Clarksville's official announcement recounted the event, detailing how the first responders' quick actions were crucial.
According to the City of Clarksville, the little girl was found unresponsive in the pool's shallow end after 6 p.m., with no pulse and in severe distress. Hester and Borah, without hesitation, removed her rapidly from the water and commenced CPR. Their Red Cross-certified training, led by Angela Bosma of Clarksville Fire Rescue, proved vital as they managed to restore the child's breathing and pulse before Montgomery County EMS and fire rescue teams arrived in the response to a 911 call made by bystanders.
Upon the first responders' arrival, the girl was found alert, oriented, and breathing independently, thanks to the lifeguards' swift efforts, and was later taken to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville for observation. She experienced a full recovery remarkably within just 48 hours and was even cleared for vacation with her family, resuming swimming and other summer activities with their full endorsement, as reported by the City of Clarksville.
Moved by this display of gallantry, Mayor Joe Pitts along with the City of Clarksville government extended personal congratulations to Hester and Borah. "Their swift and decisive actions in a critical moment not only saved a life but avoided a tragedy that could have left an indelible mark upon our community," they praised, signaling that these young individuals are not merely lifeguards but guardians of our collective well-being.
