A disturbance involving hundreds of juveniles at Orange Park Mall over the weekend prompted a significant response from the Clay County Sheriff's Office. According to News4Jax, the agency worked to disperse the crowd and called upon parents to collect their children promptly, situating them by the At Home store initially awaiting parental pickup.
The sheriff's office deployed dozens of cars to the scene to manage the situation, and despite reports from bystanders about potential altercations, officials stated there were no fights or arrests. "There was a large number of juveniles causing a disruption at the Orange Park Mall. CCSO responded and organized to have parents come pick them up," an official told News4Jax.
During the incident, a bystander, Louise Veiga, expressed her disbelief at the police activity, revealing concerns within the community. "I just pulled in to take a video because I couldn't believe all the police activity," Veiga said in a statement obtained by First Coast News, while also sharing personal family policies regarding the mall area due to safety considerations. No injuries were reported following the disturbances, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.
