Authorities in Wheeling, West Virginia, reported the capture of a Cleveland murder suspect following a near-month-long manhunt. The U.S. Marshals led Mountain State Fugitive Task Force apprehended 42-year-old Devin Roberts, who was wanted on a slew of criminal charges, including murder and probation violations. According to the U.S. Marshals Press Release, Roberts was detained without incident during a traffic stop.
The events leading up to the arrest began on June 16, 2025, when Cleveland Police were dispatched to gunshots heard around Parkgate Ave. and East 105th St. There, they found 34-year-old De’Ante Kidd dead on the steps of a nearby home. Despite initial attempts to locate the perpetrator in neighboring residences, Roberts eluded the authorities, prompting the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force to expand its search beyond the city's borders.
Swift cooperation among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies eventually zoned in on Roberts’ whereabouts. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott praised their joint efforts, saying via the press rlease, "This suspect has brought violence and fear to the Cleveland community, we are thankful for the dedicated work of the Detectives in the Cleveland homicide unit as well as the quick actions by members of our task force and in West Virginia. The suspect is behind bars and the communities are safer." Elliott went on to ensure public safety was restored following the arrest.
