The Sonoma Sheriff's Narcotics Unit, along with patrol deputies, arrested Juan Cardenas, identified as a gang member, on charges of firearm and ammunition possession, among other felonies. The arrest, part of a probation search at Cardenas' Cloverdale residence on Monday, was met with resistance. The suspect reportedly attempted to hide evidence and refused to cooperate with law enforcement officers at the scene, according to the Sonoma Sheriff's social media update.
As deputies were forced to enter the premises due to noncompliance, Cardenas was seen discarding a loaded high-capacity magazine through a rear window, an action that led to a more in-depth search of the residence. In this search, authorities found not only the discarded magazine but also an additional magazine, a loaded gun, and gang-related paraphilia. What magnifies the gravity of these findings is the unsecured placement of the firearm, easily accessible to Cardenas’ children, highlighting a disturbing lack of regard for their safety.
The Sheriff's Office promptly took Cardenas into custody, and he now faces multiple felony charges. These include possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, child cruelty, and obstructing peace officers, as well as charges for concealing evidence and violating probation. Bail for Cardenas has been set at $51,000, and he remains in county jail pending further legal proceedings.
