A local law enforcement officer has received high honors for his investigative work in a chilling child predator case, as announced on social media by the Collin County Criminal District Attorney's Office. Sergeant Brandon Polk of the Collin County Sheriff's Office in McKinney, Texas, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 DA Greg Willis SuperSleuth Award. This accolade is the highest of its kind for investigative excellence in the region.
The collar that earned Sgt. Polk, this honor involved a case that began when a mother discovered deeply troubling messages between her husband and their daughter. But Sgt. Polk dove deeper than the surface evidence. According to the Facebook post by Collin County DA's office, he conducted interviews with each child in the home, meticulously extracted and analyzed cellular data, revealing that the defendant had been manipulating the victim through catfishing, posing as someone else online.
The situation escalated when the accused severed his ankle monitor, absconding before his trial. Sgt. Polk's persistence didn't waver. Teaming up with the U.S. Marshals, he located the fugitive, who was at that point living under an assumed identity, with a new unsuspecting girlfriend and her teenage daughter. The dedication of Sgt. Polk's work unearthed a covert jailhouse plot aimed at silencing the victim, involving hundreds of calls which he reviewed and decoded himself.
In the words of the DA's office, "Because of Sgt. Polk’s relentless work, our prosecutors were able to present the full truth in court." The jury convicted the defendant, and the judge handed down a 60-year prison sentence. The statement further highlighted that Sgt. Polk's efforts went beyond bringing a solitary perpetrator to justice; his determination helped to protect siblings, and potentially the entire community from a predator who had previously been "hiding in plain sight—coaching kids, earning trust, and abusing that trust in the worst way."
