Colorado Gov. Jared Polis convened a meeting with small business owners in Boulder yesterday, where conversations circled around President Trump's tariff taxes and their consequential toll on local enterprises. Among those in attendance were representatives from Artilect Studio, Enveda, and McGuckin Hardware, each detailing the strain that the tariffs have imposed on their operations.
"The President's reckless tariff taxes are giving the economy whiplash, driving further uncertainty for businesses, and squeezing Americans' pocketbooks by increasing the cost of food, clothes, groceries, and daily necessities," Gov. Polis said, as per the Colorado Governor's Office. He amplified concerns that these tariffs are making it harder for businesses to function, sparking deeper uncertainty and driving away customers due to the upward surge in costs and prices.
In solidarity with other Democratic governors, Polis has joined voices with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, and Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson's action against Trump's tariffs. This collaborative stance aims to assess and mitigate the economic harm propagated by these federal policies. A part of this initiative is Governor Polis's Executive Order, instructing state agencies to scrutinize the fiscal impact of Trump's tariffs on Colorado's economy.
