Tomorrow night, Downtown Concord will welcome athletes and revelers alike as the Streetlight 5K & Frolic returns in all its luminescent glory. According to an announcement on Concord's official website, the event is set to commence at 6:30 p.m., transforming Union Street South with the glow of LED seesaws, silent disco headphones, and the vibrant energy of the community coming together under the cloak of nightfall.
With festivities sprawling out under the glow of streetlights, attendees can expect a lively atmosphere bolstered by an array of free entertainment, such as inflatables, a balloon artist, a mix of local food trucks, and exuberant music framing the racecourse. Meanwhile, set to begin, the 5K race itself is poised for a 7:30 p.m. start, inviting all, runners and non-runners, to partake in the vibrant night run or the fun run, which kicks off a bit earlier at 7 p.m.
As the city prepares to host this nocturnal celebration, residents should take note of several race-related road closures. The city's post details disruptions including a parking prohibition along Union Street S., between Corban Avenue SW and Wilshire Avenue SW, starting at noon on race day. Eager to ensure the streets are clear, towing enforcement will follow suit, commencing at 2 p.m. for parked cars infringing upon that same stretch of Union Street S.
Furthermore, as the afternoon progresses, Concord's thoroughfares will adapt to accommodate the footrace, culminating in the closure of Union Street S. from Corban Avenue SW to Wilshire Avenue SW as caressed by the evening's 6:30 p.m. approach. Detours, offering an alternative route around the excitement, have been advised to involve Spring Street, Church Street, Virginia Avenue, and Cabarrus Avenue. These changes will persist until the late evening, ensuring a safe and festive environment for all attendees.
