Heads up, Cookeville drivers: prepare for some construction-induced detours. Starting tomorrow, the city is rolling out a fresh round of street repairs, and Vulcan Materials has been brought on board to handle the heavy lifting of milling and resurfacing a list of streets. Operations will kick off in the McCulley Farms subdivision.

First up for Vulcan's mills is Fisk Road – north of the railroad tracks, just in case you are a regular commuter. Other streets on the milling agenda include 10th Street under the Highway 111 bridge, Chocolate Drive, and Wall Avenue north of 10th Street. According to a statement from the City of Cookeville, there'll be a bit of a squeeze on Fisk Road while crews fix a sinking utility line and subgrade issues. Traffic could shrink to two lanes or get nudged onto a detour through Summerfield Road and Volunteer Drive when needed.

Once milling wraps up, that same Vulcan crew will hit the ground running with resurfacing work. They're laying down the new surfaces in a particular order, starting with 10th Street, then Chocolate Drive, Wall Avenue, and a handful of others, with Fisk Road bringing up the rear. The grand finale of the roadwork symphony will see improvements to the McCulley Farms subdivision's streets.

Expect lane closures, shifts, and the usual rerouting while this work occurs. The city has asked for everyone's patience as these upgrades roll out—they're meant to make things safer and smoother for all. For questions and more details, contact Cookeville's Public Works Department at 931-520-5249.
