In a move expected to bolster the biotech landscape of Morrisville, Coriolis Pharma has announced a $10 million investment aimed at establishing a cutting-edge research laboratory, with plans to generate 50 new jobs in the area. Coriolis Pharma, a Germany-based leader in formulation research and development services for biologics, will expand its operations to Morrisville, North Carolina, enhancing its reach and efficiency in serving North American clients with on-site core services. According to a statement obtained by Wake County News, Coriolis Pharma CEO Silvia Steyrer-Gruber expressed the company's anticipation for the new lab, stating, "The decisive factor in our choice of location was the strong scientific fit with the North Carolina ecosystem, a global biotechnology center of excellence."
Founded in 2008, Coriolis Pharma has developed a reputation for staying ahead in the industry, and its latest strategic move to set up its U.S. headquarters in Morrisville underlines this trend. Just last year, Coriolis established a U.S. business entity and launched accelerator platform services to fast-track early-stage research to phase I clinical readiness. This development was highlighted in the company’s commitment to providing particle identification, formulation development, and lyophilization services. Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Susan Evans praised the expansion, "We warmly welcome Coriolis to Wake County – the premiere destination for life sciences companies from across the country and around the world," as mentioned in Wake County's announcement.
The Triangle region, where Morrisville is located, has become an epicenter for the life science industry, accommodating over 650 operations ranging from startups to global giants. This thriving hub garners its strength from a convergence of research, talent, and community, adept at taking innovative ideas from concept to market. Coriolis Pharma’s decision to set up shop in the heart of this vibrant ecosystem is a reflection of these dynamic conditions. T.J. Cawley, Mayor of the Town of Morrisville, emphasized the town’s strategic efforts that have cultivated an environment ripe for life sciences investment. "Coriolis joins a thriving ecosystem of global biotech leaders here in Morrisville, the emerging nexus of life sciences in North Carolina," Cawley told Wake County News.
Collaboration was key in bringing Coriolis Pharma’s investment to fruition. The project saw contributions from a broad partnership that included The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina Community College System, NC Commerce Division of Workforce Solutions, and The North Carolina Biotechnology Center, among others. These combined efforts underscored Morrisville’s prime strategic location and its highly talented workforce as pivotal reasons for Coriolis Pharma’s site selection. Economic Development Director for the Town of Morrisville, Tiffany McNeill, reiterated the town's pride in attracting Coriolis, saying, "This investment aligns with our strategic efforts to attract innovative companies, underscoring our prime strategic location and highly talented workforce." More details on this pivotal development for the town of Morrisville can be found in the recent announcement.
