As the summer winds down, Cuyahoga County is gearing up to support local students with the Back to School Challenge 2025. The county calls upon its citizens, local businesses, and community organizations alike to pull together in a collective effort to provide essential school supplies.
The initiative, aimed at ensuring that students are prepared for the new academic year, seeks donations of various school materials. According to a statement obtained by Cuyahoga County's official announcement, items on the wish list include backpacks, calculators (TI 30 or higher), colored pencils, crayons, and glue, along with other classroom staples such as highlighters, paper, markers, pencils, pens, and scissors. These supplies can make a world of difference for a child facing a new school year – sometimes, a fresh pack of markers or a sturdy new backpack is all it takes to set the tone for success.
Residents who are interested in contributing to the effort can drop off donations at the Old Brooklyn Neighborhood Family Service Center on July 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If delivery is not an option for some donors, pickups may be arranged by reaching out to the county via email. For individuals who prefer online shopping, Cuyahoga County has streamlined the process by creating Amazon and Target wish lists, enabling the direct shipment of supplies to the center.
Moreover, in order to manage the bounty of contributions, volunteers are being solicited to help with the sorting and packing of supplies. Those eager to lend a hand can sign up through an online platform called Sign Up Genius. Volunteering presents a tangible way to make an impact, and those who participate will directly contribute to a smoother start to the school year for many children.
The Back to School Challenge is not just about equipping students with pencils and paper, it's also part of a larger occasion. The supplies collected will be partly distributed at the Cuyahoga County Family Fun Day. The county's Family Fun Day is set to be a vibrant affair celebrating Child Support Awareness Month, offering a plethora of activities, including games, face painting, live music, and a range of entertaining performances. With over 70 county and community agencies taking part, it promises resources and fun for the whole family.
