Dallas is rallying the troops this summer for a high-stakes pet adoption mission, as Dallas Animal Services (DAS) rolls out a city-wide challenge called “Mission Pawsible” to find homes for 1,200 pets by the end of July. According to a bulletin from the City of Dallas, adoption fees will be waived throughout the month to encourage residents to participate in what is potentially the most ambitious lifesaving operation to date. This move follows a year where Dallas adopted over 12,000 pets from DAS, making it one of the highest-performing shelters in the country.

The initiative is underpinned by the Dallas90 aim to maintain a 90% save rate and calls on families and pet lovers to help to actively engage in the community and to play a role in saving a life, in the words of Paul Ramon, Director of Dallas Animal Services. Ramon said that they are on track for a banner year and rely on the community's known spirit to rise to this challenge. Adopters also stand to gain some extra incentives, including limited edition T-shirts and chances to win gift baskets through a community referral challenge.

Support for DAS is strong, with Sophia Proler, South Central Director for Best Friends Animal Society, applauding Dallas's effort as exactly the type of creative, community-driven action that makes a real difference. Proler's praise is based on the shelter's previous success, as she noted in a statement to Dallas Animal Services, where DAS led the state in adoptions in 2024. The summer campaign places emphasis on themed weekends, photo opportunities, and "Ready for Deployment" pet profiles designed to highlight animals ready for adoption.
