Yesterday, a sudden eruption of violence was witnessed in the 10700 block of Finnell Street, leading to an officer-involved shooting incident. According to the Dallas Police Department, the situation unfolded around 2:20 a.m. when uniformed officers, serving in an off-duty capacity, responded to a gunshot.
These officers, upon investigating the source of the disturbance, came upon a scuffle in a parking lot where a suspect, armed and unmistakable, clashed with a victim. As recounted by the Police, loud commands were issued by one officer. Yet the suspect, rejecting any semblance of compliance, chose instead to flee the scene.
The chase was brief. Confronted once more by officers, the armed suspect faced additional calls to disarm. Persistence on the part of the individual was met with lethal force, as the police narrative goes, one officer fired their weapon, wounding the suspect, who was then quickly aided with emergency medical treatment.
No officers sustained injuries during this encounter, but the other victim, the one from the parking lot scuffle, took a bullet to the face, a wound found non-life-threatening after assessment. This victim received medical attention right there.
The Office of Community Police Oversight was on the ground and informed, as was the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, which has launched its investigation into the proceedings of that morning.
