The Dallas Police Department's Downtown Task Force apprehended an out-of-state fugitive amid a drug transaction in downtown Dallas late last month, according to reports. On June 27, 2025, Dencel Idris, 33, was taken into custody following a foot chase with officers in the 400 block of North Lamar Street around 9 p.m. The team on patrol spotted the suspect engaging in what appeared to be a drug sale before he fled, leading to his arrest after being subdued by a taser.
Idris, who was found with approximately 26 grams of cocaine, is reportedly a documented gang member with multiple felony warrants issued from Arizona. “Proactively disrupting criminal networks and seizing dangerous drugs before they reach our streets is our priority,” Assistant Chief Mark Villarreal commented in a statement obtained by the Dallas Police Department. "Every day, our officers are protecting lives with their dedication and vigilance."
Facing a slew of charges, Idris has been charged with evading arrest or detention, which is a Class A misdemeanor, and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony. He is also detained on the felony warrants that originated in Arizona. The Dallas Police Department continues to investigate the incident, which has been recorded under case number 091478-2025.
