
The Dana Point community has been rocked by a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian in critical condition. Last Friday, June 27, around 10:05 p.m., the collision occurred at the intersection of La Cresta Drive and Silver Lantern Street, where authorities found an injured man in his 40s who was swiftly transported to a hospital for emergency care.
While the man fights for his life, the driver responsible for his injuries has yet to be apprehended, and the local law enforcement is now turning to the public for help in the case, they are hoping that additional witnesses come forward, and because the suspect vehicle—a light-colored sedan with possible damage to the rear passenger side—was seen near the site according to an official release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), who have taken charge of the inquiries.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and provide assistance to the ongoing investigation; those who have seen the suspect vehicle or may know the driver's identity can contact the MAIT at (949) 425-1860, alternatively, anonymous tips can also be submitted to Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS or through their website, says a report from CBS Los Angeles.
The authorities have issued a call to action for Dana Point residents and anyone who might have relevant information, "A vehicle was observed near the collision site, and it is believed that the occupant(s) might have additional information about the incident," the Orange County Sheriff's Department highlighted in their news release, as the community reels from the incident, the search intensifies for the driver who left the scene in what can only be described as a notably callous and irresponsible act that has had dire consequences for an unnamed man and his loved ones.
