A somber search for an 8-year-old Dayton boy with autism, Hershall Creachbaum, has led to the discovery of a body believed to be his, according to local authorities. Hershall, who was non-verbal and relied on a wheelchair for mobility, vanished in the early hours yesterday from his home on the 400 block of Xenia Avenue. His wheelchair was found earlier by officials, as reported by WDTN.
Dayton Police and Fire departments coordinated efforts in the search, which culminated in the detainment of a person of interest in connection with the case, WHIO stated. While the identity of the discovered body has yet to be officially confirmed by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, the context of its discovery casts a somber expectation over the community.
Concerned neighbors expressed their shock and provided context for the unsettling events. Jessica and Starla Shepherd, Walmart delivery personnel, conveyed to WDTN their previous experiences at the child's home. "We have deliver to this house at least three or four times within the last month," they shared, according to WLWT report. "The boyfriend was very standoffish. Wouldn't really allow us in the home. And we never seen any child at all." Their testimony sheds a revealing light on the household dynamics prior to the tragic unfolding of events.
