A fatal collision on SR-40 in Volusia County left one man dead and two others seriously injured. As reported by WESH, the incident, which involved a head-on collision, occurred last night at the intersection of SR-40 and U.S. Highway 17.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident took place around 11:20 p.m. A 28-year-old male driver from Fort Wayne, Indiana, crossed into opposing traffic, resulting in the tragic crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Traveling on the road beside them, two Ocklawaha residents sustained serious injuries in a vehicle that was hit by another car. Their identities have not been disclosed at this time.
As per WFTV, it remains "unclear why the Indiana man traveled onto the wrong side of the road." Authorities are investigating the factors that led to the fatal mishap, which now serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of roadway safety.
